Most of the top 8 from the 2021 CTWC have switched to rolling in some capacity over the past year in time for the 2022 CTWC in October, including Andy Artiaga, who finished fourth, just behind Saelee. In a monthly Tetris competition this past May, Artiaga won a match that broke the world record for highest combined score in a single game, highest losing score (1.5 million), and highest winning score (2.1 million). Artiaga reached level 58, a full 29 levels after the game’s kill screen.

The New Tetris introduced a “hold piece” mechanic, where a piece can be stored away for future use. This isn’t only useful to save I-pieces for later, but also great for replacing an undesirable piece with another one; although you can only swap once per singular tetrimino. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was held online with a different set of rules from the in-person tournaments. The act of clearing four lines at once, typically using the I-Tetrimino . A matrix with pieces placed — a board made of previous pieces that you manage. The 20 row by 10 column board in which the pieces are placed. A strategy that leaves 4 consecutive open columns with 3 pieces of residue inside, used for combo chaining.

The colors of the lines help identify what they should be cleared with if playing with Traditional colors. Additionally, note that you must clear a line with every piece, even if you can still get an All Clear. Since the board is only 20 lines tall it may seem confusing that you can clear above 20 lines.
